Egypt allows stranded militants into Gaza in reported secret deal with Hamas

According to the Palestinian news agency Maan, Hamas extradited a wanted Al-Qaida militant to Egypt in return for approval from Cairo for the reentry of dozens of stranded Hamas and Islamic Jihad militants to the Gaza Strip.

Egypt's Interior Ministry confirmed that they had agreed with Hamas to transport the people across the border. It gave no explanation, Haaretz reported.

Egypt has maintained an ambiguous position regarding Hamas, neither shunning them entirely nor publicly supporting them.
