Sarid: Likud "rebels" asked me to support the government
By: Dr. Aaron Lerner
Published: January 11, 2005

Yahad (Meretz) MK Yossi Sarid said in an interview broadcast on Israel Radio's evening news magazine that a number of the 13 Likud MKs who voted yesterday against Labor and Yahadut Hatorah joining the coalition out of opposition to the disengagement plan contact him before the vote to urge him to vote in favor of the coalition.

Sarid, who abstained in the vote, speculated that of the 13 Likud MKs who voted against Sharon yesterday, only 5-6 would have voted that way if they thought that their vote would have actually led to snap elections.
