Israel Television Channel 2 Arab Affairs Correspondent Ehud Yaari reported on the evening news tonight that while the PLO Executive Committee issued a call today for "halting all military acts that harm our national interests," that Palestinian Authority Chairman Mahmoud Abbas (aka Abu Mazen) has yet to follow up this call with orders to PA security to take action in the field.
Abbas met with PA security officials, Yaari noted, but did not issue instructions to the PA security heads in the West Bank or the Gaza Strip to take action to stop the Palestinian attacks.
While Prime Minister Sharon was reported on the same broadcast to have told the Mayor of Sderot that he has given the IDF instructions carte blanche to act to stop the terror attacks, Channel 2 Defense Correspondent Ronnie Daniel reported that the IDF will only "progress" to a large operation if the Palestinians continue launching (effective) attacks despite the current IDF "pinpoint" operations. |
