Likud central committee expected to impose referendum
By: israelinsider staff
Published: January 18, 2005

According to Channel Two, the Likud party's central committee will convene urgently next week to consider a resolution to demand that a referendum on retreat from Gaza and northern Samaria be held, a demand which it hopes to impose on PM Ariel Sharon, who opposes considering popular opinion. A petition with 600 signatures of members of the Central Committee was presented to Sharon. A poll conducted by Channel Two indicates that such as resolution would pass the central committee easily and may force Likud ministers to support it.
