Sharon pushed for referendum on Oslo in 1993

The day after the Oslo accords were signed on September 13th, 1993, Prime Minister Ariel Sharon, then a Likud lawmaker, visited Shas mentor Rabbi Ovadia Yosef and asked him to support a referendum on Oslo, The Jerusalem Post has learned. Rabbi Yosef declined the request.

Asked by the Post on Wednesday about the 1993 meeting with Yosef, Sharon said, "It doesn't matter what happened over ten years ago. Things have changed since then."
