Israeli troops shot two armed Palestinians seen approaching a West Bank settlement after dark Tuesday, killing them, the Israeli military said.
The military said the incident occurred next to the settlement of Bracha, near the Palestinian city of Nablus, and both the Palestinians were carrying assault rifles.
It happened one week after a Mideast summit in which both sides declared a cease-fire. Since then a total of five Palestinians have died in sporadic violence.
Palestinian militants said the two belonged to the Al-Aqsa Martyrs Brigades cell from the Balata refugee camp. The cell is financed by the Lebanese Hezbollah guerrillas, who oppose the truce. Al Aqsa is nominally linked to the mainstream Fatah movement of Palestinian leader Mahmoud Abbas. |
