By: IDF Spokesman
Published: March 18, 2005

The Head of the Southern Command, Lt. Gen. Dan Harel, signed a decree yesterday, March 17th 2005, prohibiting the relocation of Israeli citizens into the Gaza Strip.

The decree was signed in accordance to the decision made by the political echelon and as part of the preparations to implement the government decision to carry out the disengagement plan.

Under Section 22(B) of the disengagement law, the prime minister may, in consultation with the defense minister and minister of the interior, issue an order limiting access to the areas designated for evacuation at any time.

Any Israeli who is not a resident of the area but remains in it after such an order is issued is subject to a two year prison sentence under Section 27(B).
