Israel and the United States see eye-to-eye on an evaluation of Iran's nuclear plans, but are divided on the question of when and how to bring the issue before the United Nations Security Council, Israeli sources said over the weekend following Prime Minister Ariel Sharon's U.S. visit.

The Iranian threat and means of dealing with it were on the agenda of Sharon's meetings with President George W. Bush and Vice President Dick Cheney, who is coordinating policy on Iran. According to the Israeli sources, the talks focused on diplomatic methods of dealing with the Iranian nuclear threat, and did not discuss the military alternative of blowing up the Iranian nuclear facilities.
