Fuad Malikov, a 16-year-old youngster who moved to Israel from Azerbaijan a year and a half ago, was stabbed to death by a group of youth outside a Tel Aviv-area nightclub on Saturday.
Malikov and his friend had gone out to a nightclub in Rishon Lezion, just south of Tel Aviv, where they got into a confrontation with a group of youngsters over a girl. The two friends allegedly left the club and sat nearby, when one of the youngsters they had clashed with earlier arrived with a group of friends, and stabbed both Malikov and his friend.
Malikov died of his wounds in Safed's Rebecca Sieff Hospital, where his friend, who sustained moderate injuries, is currently recovering.
The police say they detained seven youngsters over the incident.
The club's security guards are to be brought before the local magistrate's court today and police said they would submit a request that they be remanded in custody pending further inquiries. This past weekend saw a rash of violence spread through night clubs around the country, in which one 16-year-old youth was stabbed to death and several more were injured in separate incidents.
Malikov's death signifies an apparent upswing in violence among Israeli bar-hoppers.
Towards dawn on Sunday, a 24-year-old man suffered serious injuries when he was stabbed during a brawl that broke in the night club district of the Tel Aviv port.
On Friday night, a 20-year-old man was stabbed at a Herziliya nightclub and four security guards were arrested in Kiryat Shmona after they allegedly attacked two youths trying to enter a nightclub.
In another incident in Herziliya, a 22-year-old man was stabbed Friday night outside a pub on Rehov Bar Kohba. The man, who was lightly injured, was evacuated to Meir Hospital in Kfar Saba.
In Tel Aviv, a 17-year-old youth was seriously injured after he fell off the roof of the Barbi nightclub. Following the incident, the management decided to close the nightclub drawing a violent response from several partygoers. Police were alerted to the scene and arrested three residents of Tel Aviv on charges of assault.
Meanwhile, four bouncers at a Kiryat Shmona nightclub were arrested in the early hours of Saturday after a fight broke out at the scene when they tried to prevent the entrance of two young men who were allegedly drunk.
