Police believe the boys threatened the girl that if she resisted they would tell her parents she had sex with them willingly. They also warned her they would spread the word of it in town.

Some of the suspects have admitted involvement in the incident, but claim that the girl slept with them of her own consent.

Zevulun District police chief Commander Kobi Bachar said that the gang rapes took place between December 2003 and June 2004 in parks and, in one case, in the home of one of the boys.

Bachar said that this was possibly the gravest investigation ever conducted in his district.
