Foreign Minister Silvan Shalom, locked in a battle of wills with his ambassador to Washington, Danny Ayalon, has decided to end Ayalon's term and recall him immediately after Ayalon's current investigation by the Civil Service Commission.
The reported move comes as embassy staff are preparing for Prime Minister Ariel Sharon's scheduled visit to the U.S. capital next week.
A special investigator from the Commission will begin work Monday in Washington to probe Ayalon and his wide Ann for alleged mismanagement of the official ambassador's residence in the city.
