An Israeli man was lightly wounded by mortar fire in Gush Katif, as Palestinians fired 15 shells at the southern Gaza settlement bloc. Some property was also damaged in the barage, Israel Radio reported.
Earlier, an IDF aircraft fired a missile at two Palestinians while the pair attempted to launch a mortar shell at southern Gaza Strip settlements. The IDF missile critically wounded one of the terrorists.
The IDF launched the strike after soldiers spotted Palestinians in the town of Khan Younis attempting to launch mortar bombs at the nearby settlements of Morag and Neve Dekalim -- the latest in a series of increasing attacks by terrorist gunmen.
The incident marks the first Israeli air strike in Gaza since Sharon and Palestinian leader Mahmoud Abbas declared a cease-fire in February.
Terrorists in Gaza have recently increased their rocket and mortar attacks on Israeli targets, both military in civilian.
