"The (military) force called for him to stop several times and fired warning shots in the air. He continued moving towards the force. He said his intention was to kill them," said one IDF spokesman.

"When he arrived close to them, and it became life threatening, a soldier opened fire as a result he (the terrorist) died," added another.

Earlier Sunday, Palestinians fired two Qassam rockets and several mortar shells at Gush Katif settlements in the Gaza Strip. No casualties were reported.

The night before the cabinet vote, a Palestinian gunman was killed and two others lightly wounded by IDF fire after the terrorists attempted to attack an IDF base south of the West Bank city of Jenin, Israeli and Palestinian sources said.
