Dan Halutz was sworn in today as the new IDF chief, making him the first commander of the air force to lead the military.
His appointment is a bit of a mystery, having come on the heels of the thus-far unexplained premature dismissal of IDF Chief of Staff Moshe Yaalon.
Halutz was sworn in during a military ceremony in Jerusalem today, where the army also bid farewell to outgoing chief Moshe "Bugi" Yaalon.
"I trust him and am sure his vast experience and quiet and relevant leadership he brings with him will allow him to prepare the IDF to face the challenges that lay before it," Yaalon told Halutz. "Danny, I wish you success."
Halutz, following Yaalon's speech at the Prime Minister's Office, declared that "We must not drag the IDF into the public debate that accompanies the disengagement plan."
