The Knesset Constitution, Law and Justice Committee is debating a number of proposals to change 'Hatikvah' to apply to non-Jewish citizens, particularly the state's Arab citizens.

The main proposal debated was to change the lyric "the soul of a Jew yearns" to "the soul of an Israeli yearns."
