In another instance of legal intimidation against opponents of the government's expulsion plan, Attorney General Menachem Mazuz is reported to be considering reopening the files against former Chief Rabbis Avraham Shapira and Mordechai Eliyahu for stating their view that Jewish Law forbids soldiers from taking part in uprooting Jews from the Land of Israel.
IDF Radio reports Mr. Mazuz said that he never issued a letter of immunity for the two Rabbis. "If we tomorrow decide not to open a file, it does not mean that the file is closed," Attorney General Mazuz said.
Rabbis Eliyahu and Shapira are currently taking part in the demonstration against the government's Disengagement Plan. Rabbi Shapira is leading the Jerusalem protesters and Rabbi Eliyahu addressing the rally in Netivot. (Hat tip: Arutz Sheva)
