The U.S. also wants Israel to approve legislation within 18 months tightening oversight of military exports, as conditions for lifting sanctions.

Apparently, the sanctions imposed by the U.S. on Israel -- over Israel's planned sale to China of spare parts for Harpy drone aircraft, which the Bush administration is up in arms about on the grounds it would upgrade China's anti-radar aircraft -- have included halting cooperation on several projects and freezing delivery of sensitive equipment.
