Settler sources claim 3,000 to 4,000 Israelis are currently staying in the Gaza Strip illegally, but the IDF says only 2,000 infiltrators have made it there.

GOC Southern Command Major General Dan Harel disputed the settler estimations, saying that most of them have permits and do not intend to stay in Gush Katif until the pullout begins.

Army and police sources say that a majority of those attempting to reach the Strip illegally are stopped on the way in. However, it seems that a consistent stream of right-wing activists are managing to enter.
