A military court sentenced the former IDF soldier on Thursday, after he was convicted of the fatal shooting of a the British pro-Palestinian activist.
Wahid Taysir was convicted in June of manslaughter for shooting ISM activist Tom Hurndall in the head during an army operation in the Gaza Strip in April 2003. Hurndall, 22, who entered into the closed military zone illegally, was allegedly helping Palestinian children avoid Israeli tanks at the time of the incident. Hurndall lay in a coma for nine months before dying in a London hospital.
Taysir had argued that a confession he gave was forced.
Taysir, a member of Israel's Bedouin minority, also said he was prosecuted because he is an Arab and because his victim was a foreigner.
