Secret IDF officers' letter warns of last-minute mass mutiny

According to internet email lists, Israeli online forums, and private phone conversations, five IDF battalion commanders have warned of a plan for mass refusal by soldiers to carry out duties related to the Gaza-Samaria Disengagement Plan on the day -- this coming Wednesday -- when they are ordered to do so, Arutz7/INN reported.

Allegedly written last week by senior officers to Defense Minister Shaul Mofaz and IDF Chief of Staff Dan Halutz, the letter describes a phenomenon called "last minute refusal". Five lieutenant colonels wrote that as many as half of the soldiers and officers assigned to Disengagement duties intend to disclose their objection to the expulsion of Jews from Gaza and Samaria on the day that they are ordered to forcibly evict residents from their homes.

The planned "surprise" refusals, according to the letter, have been made explicit in private conversations. The five officers complained to the chief of staff and the defense minister that senior officers are ignoring the growing phenomenon. The letter includes a warning to that the battalion commanders fear a mutiny in the ranks, Arutz 7 reported.

Monday there were reports from Neve Dekalim of dozens of soldiers breaking down and crying, unable to proceed with the expulsion of Jewish families from their homes. Despite motivational talks by officers, the tears and paralysis continued.
