Riot police in Gush Katif covering up their nametags

The name tags of the "Yassam" special unit riot police arriving in Gush Katif today are covered with stickers.

Although illegal for the tags to be obscured, this has been a common practice by the police, especially the Yassam unit, to conceal identities and make it more difficult for victims of the brutality for which they are notorious to identify them.

Asked by Channel 2 reporter Yigal Ravid why the nametags were covered, a commander of the police reportedly told him that the tags reflected light at night and therefore needed to be covered.

It was unclear why they needed to be covered during daylight.
