IDF OKs officer's request to be relieved of disengagement duties

The company commander is the highest ranking officer thus far to be relieved of duties due to his opposition to the disengagement.

The commander, a captain who had served as a senior instructor in the IDF course for squad commanders, is a resident of the West Bank settlement of Tapuah. He is also son-in-law of Daniella Weiss, the head of the Kedumim council, which is located in the West Bank.

The captain had approached his own commanding officer after participating in anti-pullout demonstrations in Kfar Maimon and Sderot and informed him that he could no longer participate in evacuation activities.

The commander was given leave and a replacement was found for his position. His future in the IDF has yet to be determined.
