Palestinian terrorist officials from Hamas and Islamic Jihad announced that the Palestinian Authority Prime Minister Mahmoud Abbas made a deal that he would not seize any arms of the terrorist groups in Gaza, in clear violation of the "Roadmap" Plan.
Israeli Foreign Ministry spokesman Mark Regev and US Secretary of State Condoleeza Rice both made it clear that they expect the PA to confiscate weapons and dismantle the terrorist organizations. In an interview, Rice said, "You cannot simply let a terrorist organization sit forever. There is an obligation in the Roadmap to dismantle the infrastructure of terrorism, not just coexist with it." Regev made the point that the PA must take the next step towards peace after the disengagement, peace talk will not happen before the groups are disarmed.
