Israeli-born Yaron Fishman moved to South Africa 17 years ago and is taking legal action against his neighbor, Gerald Barkhuizen, for Nazi graffiti and anti-Semitic slogans on a fence facing Fishman's home in the new Equality court recently established for hate crimes. The fence had swastikas, German war decorations, and "offensive bastard" written in German and Greek.
The head of the South African Human Rights Commission, Jody Kollapen, released a statement that the commission will represent Fishman's case. Fishman noted that he hopes the matter will be resolved quickly, for his father is a Holocaust survivor, and he knows how painful it would be to be humiliated again.
