On Monday, the Likud party court decided to make the party's central committee vote on September 26th on a proposal by the court to advance primaries to begin forcing PM Ariel Sharon out of office. If primaries are approved as expected, they would be held two months later.

Binyamin Netanyahu is expected to announce his candidacy for premiership at 3:00pm on Tuesday, possibly sparking a split in the Likud party with speculation that Sharon will start his own party. The Prime Minister did not rule out his competing in primaries, but he said he would not stay in the party if Netanyahu were selected as frontrunner.
