On Wednesday morning, voting booths opened up throughout Egypt for voters to participate in the first-ever contested election since 1952. However, there is not very much doubt that current president Hosni Mubarak will win, as the only rival considered a serious threat to his campaign -- the Muslim Brotherhood's Muhammad Mahdi Ahkaf -- was barred from the race.
Mubarak has ruled Egypt for the past 24 years, and the sudden effort on his behalf to make a "move towards democracy" is reaping praise from the U.S., a close ally.
