Wednesday opened up as the first ever contested election in Egypt, which immediately had accusations of fraud charges when polls opened up at 8am. Poll workers were accused of going inside polls and telling voters who to vote for, and even filling out ballots themselves. Amongst the candidates, promises of food were heard for voters who vote for a certain candidate.
The Egyptian government said that current President Mubarak's decision to hold elections that allowed other candidates showed the reform Egypt is undergoing. Other candidates dismiss the claim as a fraud, arguing that the only real threat to Mubarak's 24-year presidency was barred from participating in elections.
