After Hurricane Katrina hit Americans of the Gulf Coast, Pastor Jesse Stines of the Blue Ridge Mountain Church in Elk Park, NC warned that supporting the evacuation of Jews from the homeland would inflict tragedy on the American people. Stines, a firm supporter of Israel, has visited several times. "We have watched this for years and every time America makes decisions against Israel we suffer the consequences through disasters," he said. "The Jewish people were guilty of only one thing in Gaza," he continued. "They were guilty of being obedient to the God of Heaven (Who) said through the prophets that they should rebuild the ancient cities."
Stines' comments came on the heels of Shas spiritual leader Rabbi Ovadia Yosef's, that Hurricane Katrina was God's punishment for President Bush's support of the evacuation from Gaza.
