Mahmoud al-Zahar, a senior Hamas member, was interviewed in the Arab-Israeli newspaper Kul el-Arab in which he declared that "Israel's strength is not eternal," and that Hamas will never disarm as per Israeli requests on the following grounds: "Who can assure that [Israel] will leave the West Bank alone?"

"[Israel] signed a peace treaty with Egypt, but have any Egyptian academics or artists, or even thieves or dancers, normalized their relationship with Israel? No one has," said al-Zahar.
