On Sunday, former Prime Minister Ehud Barak is expected to announce that he is dropping out of the Labor party primaries. He is expected to call on other candidates to do the same, in an effort to draw united party support for Vice Premier Shimon Peres. To date, no others have chosen to follow suit.
The party's Central Committee will hold its meeting Sunday in a Tel Aviv hotel, where they will convene to decide on the voter's candidate list, followed by a ruling on when the party primaries will be held. Labor's General Secretary Eitan Cabel has proposed November 8th with Peres' support, while Amir Peretz has put his bid in for October 11th.
