After landing in London, former IDF Southern Commander Major Gen. (res.) Doron Almog was advised by Israel's ambassador to London, Tzvi Hefetz to stay within the airport and take the next flight back to Israel. This, to dodge being served papers for his arrest by Britain's newly appointed anti-terror police on charges placed by Muslim groups of crimes against humanity for his "role against the Palestinian people?.
From 1993-1995, Almog was an IDF commander in the Gaza Strip. He became Senior Commander of the Southern Strip in 2000. Almog has voiced publicly his disagreement with the withdrawal from Gaza saying, "They (the Palestinian terrorists) say 'we've won'? it will be a catalyst for terrorism in Judea and Samaria."
