According to a report in The Jerusalem Post, a PA source said the assassination of Moussa Arafat, who was recently shot in the head in his residence by members of the National Resistance Committee, was a "clear sign" that Hamas and other extremist factions want total anarchy in the Gaza Strip and are pushing the PA towards a civil war.

PA security minister Jibril Rajoub dismissed the comments, and defended PA president Mahmoud Abbas' decision not to confront extremist factions, saying that there was nothing to discuss with them until Israel had withdrawn. "The PA and its Arab neighbors are ready to deal with extremists and anyone who wants to create chaos once there is hope of ending the occupation," he said.
