In an effort to discourage retaliation on Mosques and other religious structures by angry Jews witnessing the burning of Jewish synagogues Monday, Chief Sephardi Rabbi Sholomo Amar said that any Jews perpetrating attacks on Mosques or any other religious structures will in effect have a Cherem, or ban, put on them. Jews in Cherem are ostracized from the Jewish community and are forbidden to take part with other Jews in prayer or meals, along with other Jews being unable to perform business transactions with the person except for what is needed for sustenance.
