After an initial donation by Canadian Prime Minister Paul Martin of $12.2 million to the Palestinian Authority in May, Martin announced Thursday that he intends to donate another $24.5 million dollars, bringing the total of Canadian aid given to the Palestinians to $310 million since 1993.
The original terms of the aid given in May included the disarmament of terrorists, "an end to incitement in Palestinian schools and an end to the glorification of suicide bombers." Since receiving the Canadian taxpayers? aid, Abbas has not implemented one of the terms of that agreement, with Palestinian Foreign Minister Nasser al-Kidwa announcing that Hamas and other terrorist groups will not be disarmed. Abbas himself glorified bombings when he visited schoolchildren on the opening day of the school year to tell them, "What has been achieved here [in Gaza] is due to the martyrs." Finally, not one schoolbook teaching hatred for the "Zionist enemy" and denying Israel's existence has been remanded.
