On Wednesday, Amitai Amir, the brother of the man in jail for the murder of Prime Minister Yizhak Rabin, was scheduled to join the IDF, but instead was interrogated by the Shin Bet, and told his enlistment was cancelled. Amitai said that he was questioned on his character and whether he wanted to join the army. He answered, "It's the army's decision. If they decide to enlist me, I'll join; if not, even better."
Amitai claimed that the Shin Bet interrogation and the deferment of his draft were further attempts by the government to harass the Amir family. "It's another layer in the persecution of the Amir family - in a bid to prevent the family from continuing to disseminate the truth regarding Yigal Amir's rights and ideology. But we'll continue with no fear," he said.
