Jack Straw, Britain's foreign minister, publicly apologized to Israel on Monday for the ruckus caused by the Palestinian Center for Human Rights, based in Gaza, filing and receiving a warrant for Israeli General (res.) Doron Almog when he was flying to London. Almog was warned by the Israeli embassy about the potential arrest, Almog stayed on the El-Al flight rather than getting off at Heathrow, and returned straightaway to Israel. Straw, who met with Israeli FM Silvan Shalom Monday, said that Britain must, "find a good way of dealing with such problems," and that he had wanted to phone Israel to apologize sooner, but his legal advisors warned him that such an act could be interpreted as speaking out against British law.
