Israeli Foreign Minister Silvan Shalom will visit Morocco this year as part of an improvement in the relations between the countries, a spokesman said Thursday.
Morocco broke off ties with Israel after the start of Israeli-Palestinian fighting in 2000. Prior to that, the countries had low-level trade offices.
Shalom and his Moroccan counterpart, Muhammad Ben Aissa, agreed on the meeting Wednesday during talks at the United Nations in New York, said Foreign Ministry spokesman Mark Regev. Shalom will probably visit Morocco in November, when he is slated to attend a U.N. conference in Tunisia, Regev said.
