The government's anti-terror unit advised Israelis on Saturday to avoid traveling in Egypt's Sinai desert during the upcoming month of Jewish holidays, saying it has information that terror groups plan to kidnap Israeli tourists vacationing there.
The travel advisory went into effect immediately. Tourists were advised not to travel to Egypt, or to leave immediately if already there.
During the holiday season last year, more than 30 people died in bombings of a hotel in the Sinai resort area of Taba, just over the Israeli border, and a nearby beach camp.
Sinai traditionally attracts tens of thousands of Israelis during Jewish holiday seasons.
