In 2002, Israeli citizen Tawfiq Fukra, 26, boarded an El-Al airplane en route from Tel Aviv to Turkey and attempted to hi-jack the plane to slam into a Tel Aviv skyscraper, inspired by 9/11, to show the suffering of Palestinians. He was captured and detained in Turkey, sat in jail for a year and then under house arrest for 18 months. He returned to Israel two weeks ago and is now under house arrest. "I am happy to be returning home, to my family, to the country, to the village and land on which I grew up," Fukra said Monday. He said of Turkish prison, "There were times when I broke down and cried; I feared I wouldn't make it."
