During yesterday's meeting between Palestinian leader Mahmoud Abbas and US Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice, Abbas found himself having to defend the current outbreak of chaos and infighting in Gaza. The meeting was meant to prepare Abbas for his meeting with US President George W. Bush on Thursday. Rice stressed that it was vital to the Palestinians that Abbas clamp down on the anarchy in Gaza and not allow terrorists (Hamas) to participate in elections. She also said that the Palestinian Authority must begin to show leadership and take control.
