Security officials and community leaders from Gush Etzion and Kiryat Arba agree that the communities' proposal for prickly pear cacti to replace the security fence a realistic compromise. The heads of the Gush Etzion and Kiryat Arba Regional Councils began suggesting solutions to the barrier enclosing the communities to Defense Minister Shaul Mofaz two weeks ago. The settlers are also demanding more secure roads, adding, "If we feel the IDF isn?t doing enough to protect us we will have to do the job ourselves. We?ll take positions on every hill in the area and guard the roads."
