A teacher in Saudi Arabia was sentenced to 750 lashes and 40 months in jail for praising Jews, a Saudi Newspaper reported Sunday.
Ynet news reported that he was charged with promoting a "dubious ideology, mocking religion, saying the Jews were right, discussing the gospel and preventing students from leaving class to wash for prayer".
Saudi Arabia, the birthplace of Islam, strictly upholds the austere Wahhabi school of Islam and bases its constitution on the Koran and the sayings of Islam's prophet, Mohammad.
Public practice of any other religion other than Islam is illegal in Saudi Arabia.
After being taken to court by colleagues and students, the school teacher is to be flogged in public.
