Israel suspended talks with the Palestinians on a travel passage between the Gaza Strip and the West Bank that was scheduled to open next week, an Israeli official said Thursday.
The talks were called off in response to a Palestinian suicide bombing Monday that killed five Israelis in the coastal city of Netanya, the official said on condition of anonymity since he was not authorized to discuss such matters with the media.
For the Palestinians, the opening of the so-called "safe passage" was expected to improve their quality of life by connecting the Gaza and the West Bank for the first time in nearly five years. |
