Israeli soldiers have uncovered a tunnel leading from the Gaza Strip that terrorists planned to use to infiltrate Israel and carry out terror attacks, the military said Saturday.
It was the first infiltration tunnel discovered since Israel quit Gaza in September, the military said in a release. The tunnel shaft, discovered near the Erez security crossing on the Gaza frontier, will be detonated, the release said.
A similar tunnel was dug for infiltration purposes a year ago near the main cargo crossing between Israel and Gaza at Karni, the military said.
The AP contributed to this report.
