El Al Airlines orders two 777s

Israel's El Al Airlines has finalized a purchase agreement with The Boeing Co. for two extended-range 777 jetliners, the companies said Tuesday.

The deal was worth $362 million at list prices, but airlines typically negotiate discounts.
Chicago-based Boeing is scheduled to deliver the two 777-200ERs in 2007.

El Al said the planes will help it expand service to meet a growing demand for air travel in the Israeli market.

"We are delighted that El Al continues to choose the 777 as the most efficient airplane to meet increased demand for long-haul service," Scott Carson, vice president of sales for Boeing's commercial airplane division, said in a statement.

El Al already has four 777s on routes to New York and the Far East from Tel Aviv. It will fly the new 777s to destinations in the United States and the Far East.
