Israeli warplanes pounded targets in the Gaza Strip early Sunday, in response to Palestinian rocket attacks on Israel, the army said.
There were no reports of casualties.
A military statement said planes attacked eight roads and a bridge leading to sites used for launching home-made rockets and mortar shells. "The objective of targeting them is to prevent the passage of terrorists to reach the areas from which they launch rockets into Israel," the statement said.
An explosion in the southern Gaza Strip killed a terrorist Saturday as he returned from firing rockets into Israel, according to Palestinian security officials and terrorist leaders. Three people were wounded in the blast.
Palestinian officials identified the dead terrorist as Khaled Abu Seta, 24, from the Abu Rish Brigades, a small violent offshoot of Fatah. A spokesman for the group, who goes by the name Abu Haron, said the explosion was an Israeli airstrike on the car carrying the terrorists.
The Israeli army, which routinely acknowledges when it carries out such attacks, denied involvement. The explosion appeared centered on the trunk of the car, not the engine, where Israeli missiles usually hit. Palestinian terrorists often are killed when their unstable, homemade explosives prematurely detonate.
The AP contributed to this report.
