Palestinian militants fired a homemade Qassam rocket Thursday into an Israeli military base, slightly injuring five soldiers, the Israeli military reported.
Earlier in the day, a Qassam fell just outside an Israeli power plant near the southern Israeli city of Ashkelon. Israel has responded with artillery fire at rocket launching sites, the military said.
Terrorists in Gaza often fire homemade rockets at Israeli towns, and the military suspects the Palestinians are working to extend the rockets' range to better hit larger cities such as Ashkelon.
The army said the attack Thursday morning landed inside a military base near Ashkelon. Five soldiers sustained minor injuries.
In previous attacks this week, rockets landed near the same power station and at a different Israeli military base, also near Ashkelon.
The AP contributed to this report. |
