Three Qassam rockets fired from the Gaza Strip landed in Israel Sunday, causing no injuries, despite Israel's establishment of a no-go zone to prevent the launchings, the army said.
It was not immediately clear where Palestinians launched the rockets, but it was not in buffer zone, Army Radio reported. Palestinians have not succeeded in firing rockets from the area since it was established, the army spokesman said.
Israel established the 16 square kilometer (6 square mile) zone last week, saying it would fire on any Palestinians who entered the area, in an effort to stop a recent rash of rocket fire by Palestinian terrorists.
Israeli troops fired at and killed two Palestinians in the area on Saturday.
The Qassam rockets are highly inaccurate and rarely cause injuries. But following Israel's withdrawal from Gaza in September, terrorists have been able to move closer to the Israeli border, putting the southern city of Ashkelon into rocket range.
The AP contributed to this report. |
