A Palestinian terrorist wanted by Israel was killed Tuesday during an army arrest operation in the Samarian city of Nablus, the Islamic Jihad group said.
Two Israeli soldiers were also wounded in the raid, the army spokesman said.
About ten army jeeps entered the city before dawn and surrounded a house where the suspect from the Islamic Jihad militant group was hiding, local residents said.
After troops called on residents to leave the building, a Palestinian began shooting toward troops from inside, the residents and the army spokesman said. Troops returned fire, the spokesman said.
Ahmed Radad, a senior terrorist in the Islamic Jihad militant group, was killed in the shootout, the group said in a call to The Associated Press. The army said that two soldiers were injured, one moderately and one light.
Heavy exchanges of fire and explosions were heard from the area, witnesses said.
Israel frequently carries out arrest raids for terrorists in Judea and Samaria.
