The IDF reported that forces shot and killed an armed Palestinian teen in the Kabatiya refugee camp in Jenin on Wednesday.
The troops said they shot at a group of Palestinians who opened fire on them.
Palestinian sources, however, said that Israeli soldiers shot dead a retarded 15-year-old Palestinian boy who was carrying a toy gun, who was accidentally caught in the crossfire between Israeli security forces and a group of locals who threw rocks at them.
The Israeli military confirmed the stone throwing, but said soldiers also heard explosions and identified an armed person.
The teen, Mujahed Al Simadi, was reportedly shot through the chest and died immediately.
The IDF entered Jenin overnight Tuesday on an arrest mission. Three Islamic Jihad fugitives were nabbed during the operation.
